Competency Model Development

The term 'competency' has attracted considerable interest from HR practitioners in recent years.  While practitioners may not concur on the exact meaning of the term, there is general agreement that it refers to the characteristics which drive outstanding performance in a given job, role, or function.

A competency model refers to the group of competencies required in a particular job.  The number and type of competencies typically depend on the nature and complexity of work, along with the culture and values of the organisation.
